Rick is a physical therapist and Director of our clinic at Premier Physical Therapy and Sports Performance in Lewes, DE. Rick attended the University of Delaware where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, completed in 2011. The University of Delaware PT Program is rated second in the nation by U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools.”
Rick then continued at the University for an intense thirteen months to complete an Orthopaedic Residency program, which is one of the few orthopaedic programs in the country credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). A residency program is designed to “advance significantly the physical therapist’s preparation as a provider of patient care services in a defined area of clinical practice.” As part of his residency, he had the opportunity to spend time with several board-certified orthopaedic specialists in Delaware including sports medicine, knee and shoulder, hand and upper extremity, operative and non-operative spine, podiatrist, orthopaedic foot and ankle, pain management, joint arthroplasty and TMJ. Additional experiences included performing weekly screens for performing artists and club sport athletes at the University, performing ergonomic evaluations for the faculty and staff at UD, lecturing and assisting in graduate physical therapy courses and organizing and leading monthly journal clubs on topics in orthopaedic physical therapy.
Rick has also had the opportunity to contribute to the growing body of knowledge for physical therapists by writing multiple abstracts of unique patient cases that have been accepted to the APTA Annual Conference in 2012 and 2013. He is also co-author of the article “Comparison of two hyaluronic acid formulations on functional outcomes in patients with knee osteoarthritis” which was presented at the 2011 OARSI annual meeting in San Diego. Attending and presenting at professional conferences has helped Rick further his growth and passion in the field. He is an APTA certified clinical instructor and enjoys the opportunity to assist physical therapy students prepare to become practicing clinicians.
Rick is native to Bear, DE and is excited about his move to Lewes, where he now calls home. He is enthusiastic about the new opportunities and experiences now available to him and looks forward to making a positive impact on the community. He is excited to share the orthopaedic knowledge he has gained with his patients to maximize their results in physical therapy and help them achieve their goals. Rick has a special passion for improving his patients’ quality of life and allowing them to return to their favorite activities and lead a healthy lifestyle.
Away from work, Rick likes to spend his free-time staying active, doing a variety of activities including playing in an adult ice hockey league, mountain biking, and weight lifting. Travel, snowboarding and fishing help fill his passion for the outdoors.
