James Townsend, PT, DPT
Staff Physical Therapist
James Townsend is a staff physical therapist at Premier Physical Therapy and Sports Performance in Middletown, DE. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in 2011. He competed on the University of Delaware's track and field team, earning All East Conference honors as a senior.
James then attended graduate school at the University of New England, earning a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2015. During his studies he worked in the program's biomechanics lab and co-authored the article "Biomechanical Profiles When Towing a Sled and Wearing a Weighted Vest Once Cleared for Sports Post-ACL Reconstruction", which was published in Sports Health in 2016.
Following his Doctorate degree, James completed a sixteen-month Orthopedic Residency program with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. A residency program is designed to "advance significantly the physical therapist's preparation as a provider of patient care services in a defined area of clinical practice." As part of his residency, he treated a variety of orthopedic related conditions, shadowed orthopedic and sports medicine specialists, performed formal running evaluations, lectured and assisted in graduate physical therapy courses, attended and presented at weekly sports medicine conferences, and organized and lead monthly journal clubs on topics in orthopedic physical therapy.
James is excited to be joining the Premier Physical Therapy and Sports Performance team, with aspirations to grow clinically and professionally, as well as to serve and become actively involved within the Middletown community. When not working, James enjoys running, cycling, traveling, and spending time with family.
